Barn Cat Initiative
While many feral cats thrive outdoors, we often encounter situations where it is unsafe to return them to their original location and look for partners to give them a second chance.
How the Program Works
We pair feral cats who are not suited for indoor life with farm owners or warehouse managers in need of natural pest control. This initiative creates a win-win scenario:
Natural Pest Control: Working cats help manage rodent populations without the use of toxic rodenticides or traps.
Safety in Pairs: We prefer to adopt our barn cats out in pairs so they have a companion and feel more secure in their new environment.
A Life-Saving Alternative: By providing a sheltered environment, you are saving an animal whose only other option might have been a dangerous life on the street.
Why Relocate These Cats?
Feral cats living in unsafe urban areas face constant threats, including disease and poisoning, traffic and accidents or, sadly, intentional abuse or neglect.
Your Role
By adopting through the PKNYC Working Cat Initiative, you aren't just getting a "mouser"—you are changing a cat's fate.
You provide the shelter and food, and they earn their keep by protecting your property.

We handle the medical foundations and logistics to ensure your new working cats arrive healthy and ready to settle in.
Complete Medical Prep: Each cat is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to placement.
Health Screening: Cats are tested for FeLV and FIV; please note that FIV+ cats can still live long, productive lives in a barn environment.
Strategic Support: We provide transportation from NYC to your site and offer acclimation crates to help the cats adjust to their new territory.
Waived Fees: To help launch this vital program, we are currently waiving all adoption fees for barn cats.
What We Provide
As a barn cat guardian, your role is to provide the basic necessities that allow these cats to do their jobs safely.
Secure Shelter: Access to a warm, dry area such as a barn, stable, warehouse, or outbuilding.
Basic Essentials: Commitment to providing daily food and fresh water to keep your "staff" strong and healthy.
Attentive Care: Monitoring for health issues and providing veterinary care when necessary (with PKNYC assistance available if needed).
Advocacy: Helping us grow by sharing the program’s success with neighbors and fellow property owners.
