Volunteering with PuppyKittyNYCity isn’t just about helping animals, it’s about being part of a community that steps up when it matters most.
Every day, we take in vulnerable cats and kittens who rely on us for medical care, safety, and a chance at a better life. None of that is possible without volunteers. Whether you have a few hours a week or just occasional availability, there’s a role for you. From kitten wrangling and fostering to transport, admin support, or events, we offer flexible opportunities that can fit a wide range of schedules and skill sets. No matter your experience level, your time makes a direct and meaningful impact.

We have many volunteer positions available!
This opportunity is for people who are local to NYC. We have morning and evening shifts each day. The average volunteer shift is 3 hours and we ask that you commit to the same day each week.
This position involves helping us feed animals, medicate, change litter and clean our rescue space.
Experience is preferred. If you don’t have experience and want to learn we can also train you!
Shelter Space Volunteer
Adoption Condo volunteers care for cats housed at adoption condo locations, checking in at the start and end of each shift.
During visits, they observe the cats’ health and wellbeing including eating habits, litter box usage, or any concerning symptoms. Volunteers are expected to flag any urgent issues immediately while still on-site, capture photos or videos of the cats, and keep communication streamlined by consolidating updates into a single end-of-shift message when everything is normal.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone who has limited time each week! This is a one hour time commitment per week.
Petco Volunteer
Cat Transport Volunteers play a critical role in saving lives by safely transporting cats to and from shelters, foster homes, veterinary appointments, and rescue partners.
This flexible, on-call role is perfect for animal lovers with a car who want to make an immediate impact. Volunteers are provided with clear guidance and coordinated by our rescue team for each transport, including pickup details, timing, and special instructions.
Your help ensures cats move quickly and safely toward medical care and loving homes.
Transporter
Wrangler Volunteers help support our youngest rescues during adoption events, kitten therapy and other events.
This role involves assisting with handling, supervising playtime, keeping kittens safe and comfortable, and helping ensure events run smoothly. Kitten Wranglers help kittens stay calm, socialized, and happy while also creating positive experiences for potential adopters and event attendees.
We provide guidance and support so volunteers feel confident working with kittens in busy, exciting environments. If you love kittens and want a hands-on way to make a big impact, this role is for you. 🐾
Kitten Wrangler
Cat Sitting Volunteers provide essential support by caring for rescue cats either in their own homes or by visiting cats who are already in foster homes while foster parents are away.
This role helps ensure cats maintain their routine, receive proper care, and stay comfortable and stress-free in a familiar environment. Whether you’re offering short-term in-home care or checking in on cats during a foster family’s absence, we provide guidance, clear instructions, and ongoing support every step of the way.
Your time and compassion make a direct difference in a cat’s safety, well-being, and journey to a forever home. 🐾
Cat Sitting
An Administrative Purrfessional with Puppy Kitty will be a remote volunteer opportunity.
We are looking for people with all different sort of skill sets from marketing, social media, branding, and grant writing!
We want to work on the best professional, non-profit brand we can be to improve fundraising, adoptions, and volunteer efforts.
Administrative Purrfessional
As a Fundraising Extraordinaire, you will work to help us, well, raise funds. With over 400 cats in our care with many health issues, our bills are constantly adding up.
We are looking for folks to help us by setting up fundraising campaigns, generating ideas, working with a business to place a donation jar, securing corporate partnerships etc.
We are open to new ideas!
Fundraising Extraordinaire
Dog Walker Volunteers provide crucial support by helping ensure our rescue dogs receive regular exercise, enrichment, and care. Volunteers may walk dogs staying in our satellite location or assist foster families by stepping in when they are unavailable.
This role helps dogs maintain healthy routines, burn off energy, and build confidence through positive, consistent interactions. We provide guidance, clear instructions, and ongoing support so volunteers feel comfortable and prepared.
